Before you start cracking packs, see if your cards will be worth something in our trusty Lorcana Rarity guide!

Lorcana has 6 kinds of rarity which is determined by the symbol at the bottom of each card. If you’re opening boosters, each pack will have 12 randomised cards with the following contents:

  • 6 Commons
  • 3 Uncommons
  • 2 Rare, Super Rare, or Legendary cards
  • 1 Foil (of any rarity)

Common

As the name suggests, these cards are the most common ones in the game. Every time you open a booster pack, you’ll find 6 of these types of cards, sporting an icon of a grey circle.

Don’t let the name fool you, though. Common cards have always lent a helping hand to every kind of TCG player. Let’s look at an example:

A card like Archimedes is a common with no abilities, but it’s also a 1-cost card that you can bring out on your first turn and help you earn Lore the next.

UNCOMMON

Denoted by a white book icon, this card rarity is a step up from your regular commons. Now, some of them are good, some of them not so much. It really depends on what you value as a player and what you’re building your deck around.

One of my favourites is Flynn Rider, Charming Rogue who has an ability that makes it hard for your opponent to challenge him. Run four copies of him in your deck and you’ve got a smolder army!

RARE

Now we’re getting to the good stuff. Rares have the bronze triangle as their symbol and sport some amazing abilities. Hades, King of Olympus (with a sweet hairdo) gets more and more Lore with every villain you play. Other times, they’re simply really big and really strong like Maui, Demigod!

But if Rares are coloured bronze… what’s silver and gold?

SUPER RARE

There’s rare, and then there’s SUPER RARE. Find a silver diamond on your card and you’re looking at some really strong cards with some wild game-changing abilities.

Just look at Mickey Mouse, Wayward Sorcerer, a Fantasia inspired card that leads your army of common brooms. Remember what we said about commons being strong?

LEGENDARY

There’s Super Rare, and then there’s LEGENDARY. The gold pentagon that tells you that these cards are the cream of the crop. The best of the best. You’ve literally hit gold. These tend to be the cards that you can resell, and are what collectors chase to add to their collection. If you ever want to let some of these go, you can sell them to us at Good Games!

I love Hydra, Deadly Serpent, who is a massive beast that deals damage right back to other characters. Alice Growing Girl is another fun Legendary that gets stronger with the help of your other cards.

But what could even be better than Legendary?!

ENCHANTED RARE

The prettiest cards in the bunch with a rainbox hexagon. Eagle-eyed readers will note that Enchanted Rares aren’t part of the regular booster pack breakdown. That’s because unlike Rare, Super Rare, or Legendary, there is no guarantee that you’ll pull an Enchanted Rare in a pack. But that’s okay! Enchanted Rare is more of a special aesthetic treatment rather than a rarity type.

Plus, Enchanted Rares are based on existing cards in a given set.

Gameplay wise, Stitch Carefree Surfer is the same whether it’s a Legendary or an Enchanted Rare. However, if you’re a collector, the Enchanted Rare is truly the most exclusive kind of card you can get from cracking a pack of Lorcana.

JUDGING VALUE

Judging a Lorcana card’s value can be tricky. One way to do it is to look up a card online and see how much people value a particular card. Market prices show how much people are willing to pay for a certain card, whether it’s because of how rare it is, or how powerful it is in the metagame.

Speaking of which, another way is to check how a card can affect the game.

Gramma Tala Spirit of the Ocean

Gramma Tala, Spirit of the Ocean is a surefire banger with how much lore she can get you, making her a valuable card in your deck. Judging cards this way takes more time and practice, but will ultimately make you a better Lorcana player!

COLLECTOR TIPS & TRICKS

So, after cracking those packs and judging a card’s value, what do you do?

Protect with Accessories

Every good TCG player needs accessories for their cards. Whether you have a starter deck or cards from a pack, you can protect them by putting them in some card sleeves and then a deck box.

For cards that don’t go in your deck, you can keep the best ones safe in a binder!

Get them Graded

Pulled an Enchanted Rare? Consider grading it with our friends at PCG. Their experts can authenticate and preserve it in a protective case to keep it pristine condition.
